What is being a princess?  Being locked up just waiting to be saved and live in beautiful castles or maybe having an attractive appearance and wear gorgeous dresses to find the prince of charming. All of these characteristics are always related to the way princesses are but more than that they are magical characters who have the power to fight and follow their dreams.

The media has always had a huge impact on social relations and the way genres are perceived. It often stereotypes and generalizes behaviors, identity, and cultural meanings. For this reason, it contains an immense symbolic power, since the female characters in the industry construct, accept and normalize the meaning of being a woman. And the question is, does anyone know what it is to be a woman?

Disney princesses have been a representation of the role of women in society, where a pattern of behavior is traditional and standardized, although it may seem fanciful, it affects reality. Indeed, these meanings are not invented but based on what is lived at a certain time. Some people believe that princesses are only made for the enjoyment of girls, however, this is a mistake. We will learn how the role of women has changed through the times and the influence that feminism has had in history. This evolution will be observed with the Disney princesses where it becomes important to recognize why these variations have been presented at a social level.
